La zuffa è nata quando il segretario della delegazione russa Valery Stavitsky ha strappato
la bandiera a un deputato ucraino che, durante un'intervista, l'aveva stesa dietro la delegata russa Olga Timofeeva. Il membro del Parlamento di Kiev, allora, ha preso a schiaffi e pugni il russo, riacciuffando la bandiera. Gli organizzatori a quel punto hanno chiesto che i responsabili della lite di entrambe le parti venissero allontanati.
